Why are Nokona gloves spelled with a “k”, when they are made in Nocona, Texas, which is spelled with a “c”-?

While trying to trademark the name Nocona in the early 1930s, the company was told that the name of a city could not be trademarked. So, with a simple change to a “K”, the brand became Nokona.
