Winning Answer

Playing catch made its most memorable impact on me in the Fifth Grade. We had just moved from Seattle, Washington to Reno, Nevada – sixteen hours away from my friends. Those who I had known my entire life, and who knew me better then I knew my self. Playing catch is what introduced me to my best friend. He was playing travel ball on the team I was going to try out for, and he went to the same school as me. We immediately hit it off, and he showed me the ropes for this new life in the desert: how to watch for snakes, what to do in the heat. But, most importantly, he made me feel special and helped me meet people I would have never expected to know. Playing catch at that one travel ball tryout earned me my best friend and a place in a new world that I had been afraid to explore.
